Accessibility
It is important to Rangeholder to be as inclusive as possible in all aspect of our business. This site has therefore been designed, from the outset, to offer an practical level of accessibility. As well as passing the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) automated accessibility testing procedure to AA standards, we also have an ongoing policy of improving accessibility in response to comments from our customers and site visitors. Please feel free to contact us at info@rangeholder.com with any comments, queries or suggestions.
Accessibility Descisions
The first step towards making this site accessible was to make the site standards compliant. The code used to generate the layout of this site conforms to the W3C XHTML 1.0 Transitional Standard. Due to the many different ways in which this site can be accessed and the non standard methods in which access devices render information we chose to keep our site as simple and non restrictive as possible. For this reason we decided not to make heavy use of access keys or to set a tab path through the site. It is our belief that because the site is structured in a sensible way, the default tab order should be logically sound. Setting accesskeys can cause clashes with custom, user defined keys. It is also of limited value due to the non standard setting of these keys accross web sites. We cannot expect user to remember a large set of site specific keys, therefore we offer only 3.
Text Resizing
This site has been designed to support the resizing of text. This can be done through your browser interface. Internet Explorer allows text resizing via the "View" -> "Text Size" options in the top menu. Firefox allows resizing by holding down the CTRL key and the plus (+) or minus (-) keys. The contact banner at the bottom of the page is an image, however, it will resize inkeeping with your text. Depending on your browser you may need to refresh a page after resizing the text to see all of the changes.
Access Keys
How to use an access key depends on the operating system and browser you are using. In general press a modifier key and the appropriate access key. In windows this is generally the ALT key, with I.E. (Internet Explorer) press ALT and your access key, then Return, with Firefox press ALT and the access key. On the Mac it is often CTRL and the access key. The standards access keys for this site are:
- Home: access key 0
- Skip Navigation - main content: access key 1
- Skip Navigation - product information panel: access key 2
Skip Navigation Link
The skip navigation buttons allow a user accessing the site non visually to quickly skip to the main text areas in the same way a site user would glance past the header images and onto the text. There are two main text areas: main content which contains the main information for the page and the product information panel which shows additional, "at a glance" information. In the shopping area of the site, the product information panel contains the shopping cart information.
